i LOVE teachers like that. Having fun in class is so much better than just sitting around being talked to. Granted if a student is confused, it’s harder for them to get the joke. I didn’t fully understand my teachers until I became one and let me tell you, it’s a whole new perspective. At the start of my time teaching, a very wise person told me “you are not there to be their friends, you are there to teach them”. Teachers make assumptions about the students entering their classes (like that they have a background in the subject or that they read the book), just like students make assumptions about the teachers teaching (like they will be available to help anytime and will always be nice). Sometimes our assumptions are not accurate. Granted, some teachers really don’t care, but a lot of them do. They just have other things going on in their lives, they can’t help students 24/7! And yes sometimes they get snippy and sarcastic, but so do students. If you were asked the same question a million times, you would get a little annoyed to. When judging teachers, please try to remember they have bad days to.

I am a teacher myself and students have given me books about the qualities of a good teacher. I learned that a good teacher is somebody who can crack up jokes and can also make fun about himself sometimes. I want a fun class. Learning should be fun and serious also at times but should never be serious all the time. Once students have seen your professional side and how stern and firm you are as a teacher, they know their boundaries although you make learning fun.

Do you teach any graduate courses in Geology. I would love to transfer up to Michigan and have you as my graduate advisor. I am working towards an MS in Forensic Geology. What a great guy and an incitefull teacher.

I would love this professor. Anyone who is truly passionate about their subject is wonderful to learn from!!!

I really get annoyed with people who complain about a class because it’s difficult. This is college, it’s supposed to be hard.

    The cake is a lie.
